When I was working as a paginator for MediaNews Group, the news broke 50 minutes before deadline that John Dingell had died. Since there were no reporters on duty and none of the wire services produced an obit quick, my editor asked me to write a brief new story to be tucked into all the papers. I wrote this story using the facts that were available and pulled quotes from politicians’ news releases as they became available. All the pages were submitted before deadline and production went off without a hitch.
